About SimpanResit
Last updated:
SimpanResit is a receipt-keeping app for Malaysian taxpayers, and a public guide to the personal income tax reliefs you can claim against them. This page exists so you know who is behind both, and how much weight to put on what you read here.
Who builds this
SimpanResit is built and maintained by Luqman Haqeem, a Malaysian software developer. It started as a personal problem: every year, sorting through a shoebox of faded receipts at filing time, trying to remember which ones counted toward which relief, and realising afterwards that some limits had gone unused. The app is the tool that fixes that, and the guide is the reference that had to be re-derived from scratch each year.
What I am not
I am not a licensed tax agent, accountant, or financial adviser, and nothing on this site is professional tax advice. What I bring is first-hand experience filing as an individual Malaysian taxpayer and a habit of checking figures against primary sources. For anything that turns on your specific circumstances — unusual income, business deductions, disputed assessments — speak to a qualified tax professional.
How the figures are sourced
Tax relief amounts, conditions and eligibility change from one Year of Assessment to the next, so getting them wrong is worse than saying nothing. The guide follows a fixed process:
- LHDN is the primary source. Every limit and condition starts from the Inland Revenue Board's published tax relief guidance for the relevant assessment year.
- Every figure is cross-checked against at least two independent published Malaysian tax advisories before it goes live.
- Uncertainty is shown, not hidden. Where a figure has not yet been confirmed against LHDN's final documents for the year, the page carries a visible “Verify with LHDN” badge instead of quietly presenting it as settled.
- Everything is year-scoped and dated. The guide currently covers Year of Assessment 2025, and each page shows when it was published and last revised.
- Corrections are welcome. If you spot a figure that is out of date or wrong, email me and I will check it against LHDN and fix it.
How the app handles your receipts
Receipts are stored in encrypted storage and are only ever accessible to your own account. Receipt images are sent to a third-party AI provider purely to read the text off them, and are not used to train models. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
